 World Champion in Our Midst!

05 November 2009

Our very own Ian Metcalfe, Primary Link Teacher at Sherborne Primary School, recently returned from representing England at the International Masters Hockey Tournament in Hong Kong with a significant piece of metalwork- a Gold medal to be precise! Huge congratulations must go to Ian and his team for their performance, showing that there are talented performers in amongst the staff in North Dorset as well as talented students.

Ian said:-

"It was a fantastic experience, the team gelled so well and everyone always worked for each other. We beat Australia 2-1 in the final, with a golden goal in extra time. I was awarded man of the match by the Hong Kong team in our first game against them, very honoured as everyone played so well."

Ian has recently been organising and delivering coaching sessions to young hockey players in the Sherborne area, as he is keen to pass on his skills and experience.

HONG Kong Masters Day 8

The 45s, 50s and 55s are champions whilst the over 40s finish a creditable 3rd.

It was a triumphant day for England as the 45s, 50s and 55s all took gold with close but deserved wins over Australia. All 3 finals were highly competitive, skilful and played with a great deal of sportsmanship. Celebrations ran long into the night whilst come players started the long journey home. Only the over 40s returned empty handed but they deserve credit for some good performance against high quality opposition.
