 rocking rounders

25 June 2010

A beautiful sunny day…….!

The sun shines on the righteous. 4 schools took part in this years’ rounders tournament. 40 students from Years 5&6 came together at Sturminster Newton High School to compete for the trophy. Schools played each other in a round robin tournament and played innings of 21 good balls. This meant every ball counted and bowling played a big part in the game, as 2 no balls gave ½ rounder to the opposition. During the tournament the pupils displayed excellent fielding skills. The practicing of catching and throwing through cricket and rounders this year was definitely noticeable but none more so than by the pupils of Shillingstone School. The team dominated by winning all their games and Seb Moseley finished top scorer with 6 rounders. Unfortunately the team did not field a full mixed sex team of 5/4 so were unable to take home the trophy.

The next best team who won all their games apart from losing to the strong Shillingstone team were delighted to take home the winning shield.

1st Okeford Fitzpaine

2nd William Barnes

3rd St Nicholas, Child Okeford.

Once again, a tournament played with a competitive yet encouraging spirit by all.
