Strong Winds at Sherborne QuadKids Event...
June 2011
Vortex Howler Throw
Strong winds at Sherborne managed to blow the results team's tent away! The second of the North Dorset SSP QuadKids competitions took place today hosted by Rachael Troughton, SSCo , where 15 teams and approximately 160 athletes from across North Dorset converged on The Gryphon School, Sherborne, for an afternoon of exciting competition. As with last week's event at Blandford, it was brilliantly organised and completed in 2 hours!
Despite the threat of rain it remained dry but very windy! A very strong gust of wind caused the tent housing the results team to blow away, leaving them out in the open!
Undeterred by the strong wind and flying tent, the young athletes produced some amazing performances - well done to all of them!
The competition was won by Stalbridge with 1576 points, Gillingham were close behind with 1522 points and Bradford Abbas in third with 1490 points. Overall top girl was Verity of St George's, followed by Harriet of St Mary's and Lucy of Bradford Abbas in third.
Top boy was Max HA of Stalbridge with team mate Max NE in joint second with Matthew of Shillingstone.
The competition was a big success due the efforts of many people. A huge thank you to the Young Sports Leaders from The Gryphon School and Gillingham School, also to all the SSCo's and teachers who helped... And of course to Peter Grosjean from QuadKids.
Lastly, in the background at all QuadKids competitions there is a team processing the results, which today encountered some interesting problems, not least of which was the loss of the tent, followed by the the laptop giving up and then the electronic file becoming corrupted!!! A massive thank you to Charlotte who carried on entering the results regardless of the challenges of the day.....
The top teams have now been invited to represent North Dorset at the forthcoming County QuadKids Finals, which will take place at Kings Park Athletics Stadium, Bournemouth, on Tuesday 5th July 2011, so we wish them every success in the next step of this competition pathway.
